How to use the same Mac or Windows PC with your children without worrying
Using the same computer at home with your children has a number of benefits. Apart from giving you control over what your children get accessed to, it enables you to always limit the time that the children are on the computer as compared to if it was on their own room. It is also an economical move.
If you are using a Mac, you will be able to access ‘Parental Controls’ setting window under ‘System Preferences.’ You can tweak several settings such as limiting access to the file system, applications and the Internet.
On a Windows PC, the features are relatively the same too. Windows Phone 8 offers the ‘Kids Corner.’ This is a special home-screen where selected applications can be accessed. Basically, you will only need your children to access games. Creating a new account on the control panel and reducing the privileges to your desired level results in the same features for the Windows desktop. The guest account, however, should be set in such a way that the activities are logged. You are enabled to limit access to apps and the Internet in general.
The folders that you should limit access to on the two platforms can be those with sensitive files. Some applications always monitor what was happening all the time the person was using the computer. The logs will be helpful in how you will decide to monitor your child. It is good to still ensure the children do not install apps by themselves.
